CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
You will learn the techniques of professional make-up artists and will gain familiarity with traditional make-up, as well as new materials and tools. You will also learn a variety of special make-up effects skills, including the creation simulated injuries, age make-up, and the application of effects such as bald caps and facial hair. At the end of the course, you will design and create a character which will be captured in a photo shoot.

This course focuses on character development with an emphasis on the fundamental elements of prosthetic application and special make-up effects.

Week 1: Aging Unit

Advanced Highlight & Shadow techniques

Create wrinkles, age spots and veins to enhance the aging process

Create bruises with proper stippling technique.

Create two-dimensional scrapes and scratches with the use of a black stipple sponge or brush.

Apply indented scars, raised keloid scars,

Create cuts, lacerations, bullet holes (both entrance and exit wounds) using a silicone modeling compound.

Create a first, second and third degree burns

Create ice and snow effects using Ultra Ice and Ice Powder.
Week 5 & 6: Prosthetic unit

Apply a silicone prosthetic appliance

Apply Prosaide Transfer prosthetic appliance

Mold and apply a reliable bald cap using Pliatex rubber

Apply a foam latex prosthetic appliance in 30 minutes

Apply multiple prosthetics and build up a full face SFX makeup in 2.5 hours

Create an individual “character” appearance utilizing the airbrush techniques
