SPECIALITY COURSE: CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT


With this advanced and highly specialized training in special effects make-up, you will learn the techniques used by the world’s leading professional make-up artists. This comprehensive course covers traditional and cutting-edge materials and tools, focusing on creating complex character make-up including simulated injuries, burns, age transformations, bald caps, facial hair, and more. At the end of the program, you will design and build a full character using latex and silicone prosthetics, culminating in a professional photo shoot to showcase your work.

 Week 1: Aging Unit

  • Advanced highlight & shadow sculpting

  • Wrinkles, age spots, veins – mastering aging effects

  • Aging stipple techniques

  • Hair graying and “old age” character makeup

 

Weeks 2 & 3: Hair Unit

  • Hair application

  • Beard and facial hair techniques

  • Bald Cap molding and application

  • Tattoo simulation

 

Week 4: Injury Unit

  • Realistic bruise creation with stippling

  • 2D scrapes, scratches with sponge and brush

  • Indented and raised keloid scars

  • Cuts, lacerations, bullet holes with silicone compounds

  • 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-degree burns

  • Ice and snow effects using specialty materials

 

Week 5 & 6: Prosthetic unit

  • Silicone prosthetic application

  • Pros-aide transfer prosthetics

  • Reliable bald cap creation with Pliatex rubber

  • Foam latex prosthetics applied efficiently

  • Building full-face SFX make-up in under 3 hours

  • Airbrush techniques for character finishing

Final Project

 

  • Complete a unique character makeup suitable for your professional portfolio, culminating in a photo shoot
